Consultation with community members is an essential component of each and every project Ininew undertakes. We recognize the importance of local planning and decision-making and we respect the opinions and desires of each First Nation. In particular, we look to elders and appropriate community advisors to be actively involved in all phases of a project. By seeking input at the grassroots level and by listening carefully, Ininew can respond effectively to community input and thus increase community satisfaction with each project. We understand that every community is unique and never try to impose a cookie cutter approach; every project is adapted to the specific requirements of the individual First Nation. We seek consensus in decision making and work diligently to ensure broad support for the project. A recent capital plan prepared for Moose Lake First Nation demonstrates our respect for local approaches and decision making. As part of that assignment, and at the invitation of the chief and council, Ininew staff met with community members in a town hall format. The participation of several elders and input from many residents resulted in changes to planned subdivisions and, ultimately, a blueprint for the future that had broad community buy-in. |
